چکیده

__________________________________________________________________________ Background: The effect of intra-articular treatment of hip osteoarthritis with hyaluronic acid in the hip joint is not based on large randomized controlled trials. Hyaluronic acid is a well established treatment for osteoarthritis of the knee. Methods: Randomized controlled trial with three-armed parallel-group design. The patients meeting the inclusion criteria will be randomized into one of the following groups: infiltration of the hip joint with hyaluronic acid, with corticosteroids or with bupivacaine 0,125%. Pain VAS, Harris Hip Score and HOOS were scored during follow-up. The patients will be asked to determine their situation as worse, stabile or better then at the time of enrollment. There will be asked if they use painkillers and if they have complications/adverse events. These outcome measure instruments will be used at the time of enrollment in the study prior to any injection, and then again at six weeks, 3 and 6 months after the initial injection. The six-month follow-up period begins for all patients on the date the first injection will be administered. Conclusion: There is a need for more rigorous designed studies on hip osteoarthritis treatment as this subject is still very much under debate. Trial registration: NCT01079455 ___________________________________________________________________________

Comparison of intra-articular injections of Hyaluronic Acid and Corticosteroid in the treatment of Osteoarthritis of the hip in comparison with intra-articular injections of Bupivacaine. Design of a prospective, randomized, controlled study with blinding of the patients and outcome assessors

BACKGROUND Although intra-articular hyaluronic acid is well established as a treatment for osteoarthritis of the knee, its use in hip osteoarthritis is not based on large randomized controlled trials. There is a need for more rigorously designed studies on hip osteoarthritis treatment as this subject is still very much under debate. METHODS/DESIGN Randomized, controlled trial with a three-arm...

Effectiveness of intramuscular corticosteroid injection versus placebo injection in patients with hip osteoarthritis: design of a randomized double-blinded controlled trial

BACKGROUND Recent international guidelines recommend intra-articular corticosteroid injections for patients with hip osteoarthritis who have moderate to severe pain and do not respond satisfactorily to oral analgesic/anti-inflammatory agents. Of the five available randomized controlled trials, four showed positive effects with respect to pain reduction. However, intra-articular injection in the...

Comparative, double-blind, controlled study of intra-articular hyaluronic acid (Hyalubrix®) injections versus local anesthetic in osteoarthritis of the hip

INTRODUCTION Comparison of intra-articular bacterial-derived hyaluronic acid (Hyalubrix) (HA) with local analgesia (mepivacaine) for osteoarthritis (OA) of the hip. METHODS A pilot prospective, double-blind, 6-month randomized trial of 42 patients with hip OA. HA or mepivacaine was administered twice (once a month) under ultrasound guidance. Efficacy measurements included the Lequesne's algof...
